Pastor's Newsletter Article Concerning our New Contemporary Service
Greetings in Christ,
After much discussion and consideration, I am pleased to announce that we will be having a new worship offering. This worship offering will be Sunday afternoon. This offering will be a worship service in a contemporary style. I am very excited that we have mostly youth involved in the creation of this service, but this service is not only for them it is for all who would like to attend, regardless of age.
It has been a wonderful process because I have many involved, from confirmands to high school graduates. Each person involved is beautiful, made in Christ’s image and has something to offer. Each person is helping to create an offering that will be especially meaningful to those coming to this worship service. I would ask each and every one of you to pray that our Lord and Savior would bless the workers that he has provided, for the success of this service. I would ask that you would pray for him to bless all who attend and all who will attend this service. Finally pray that St. John can use this as a tool to reach the unchurched.
Imagine for a moment that you are sitting in church. You just finished the divine service that we all grew up with, the old reliable, page 5 & 15. You feel fed. You feel nourished. You feel that God has been present with you in worship. This is the feeling that we seek to offer another generation. Of course, we want them to appreciate our traditions and there will be room for these as well. But what a privilege it is to offer something to people that communicates the divine presence of God in the same way that The Lutheran Hymnal communicates to us.
I would ask for your support for this service. I would ask that you would pray for me and my family as this will be an increased time commitment for me on Sundays. I would ask that you pray for the workers that the Lord is preparing to send out into his harvest and that we all would be his laborers.
Brothers and sisters, finally, I would ask that you continue to seek places to serve in these trying times. They are not like former times to my eyes, but perhaps that is because of my inexperience. Pray for all people that the Lord’s hand would be on them, and that their hearts would be more like his. Pray that no one would resist his sanctification, least of all us.
I pray that the Lord would bless you and keep you this month.
God’s Peace,
Pastor Williamson
